About Us

Who We Are

At Harmony Baptist Church, we stand firmly on the eternal truths of God’s Word. We are an independent, conservative Baptist church, affiliated with the Hightower Baptist Association.

We believe the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) wasn’t just a command—it’s our calling. As a mission-minded church, we are deeply committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, beginning in our own backyard and stretching across the globe. We seek to reach the lost, encourage the broken, and disciple believers through personal witness, outreach efforts, and community engagement.

What We Believe

Statement of Faith
  • The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God and our final authority.
  • God exists eternally in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a virgin, crucified for our sins, risen bodily, and coming again.
  • Salvation is by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ—not by works.
  • The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, gives us new life through salvation, and guides us daily in truth and godly living.
  • The Church is a body of baptized believers called to worship, disciple, and proclaim the gospel.
  • Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances given by Christ—baptism by immersion, and the Supper as a memorial.
  • Marriage is the union of one man and one woman, ordained by God.
  • Eternal Life awaits all who trust in Christ; judgment and separation await those who reject Him.
We exist to glorify God, grow in grace, and go into the world with the gospel.

History of Harmony Baptist Church

Harmony Baptist Church was organized in 1870 by a small group of faithful believers. What began with just a handful of members has grown to a congregation of approximately 500 today.

In the early years, worship services were held in the Old Harmony Schoolhouse. By 1885, members built the first wooden sanctuary, which served the church until 1957. That year, construction began on the brick sanctuary that still stands proudly today.

The dedication service and cornerstone laying were held on July 13, 1958. Much of the building’s beauty and strength came from the timber harvested from the church’s own property, the many hours of volunteer labor given by members, and the generosity of the community. Thanks to these efforts, the sanctuary was completed without a single dollar of debt—a testament to faith and unity.

Over the years, Harmony Baptist Church has continued to grow and improve its facilities:
  • 1973: Air conditioning was added
  • 1975: The driveway and parking areas were paved
  • 1976: The beautiful steeple, visible for miles, was added
  • 1982: New pews were installed in the sanctuary
  • 1990: The fellowship hall parking lot was paved
  • 2007: The Family Life Center was completed, providing space for ministry, fellowship, and outreach to the community
  • 2017: Sanctuary is renovated to its current status.

Today, we gather each Sunday morning for worship service and Sunday school, and on Wednesday evenings for choir practice and Bible study.

Through every season of change, Harmony Baptist Church remains committed to its founding mission—
to serve God faithfully, share His Word, and be a light in the Dawsonville community.
